Nowruz Travel Accidents Claim 585 Lives in Iran

Iranwire – Iranian traffic authorities reported that at least 585 people were killed on the roads between March 14 and 28.

According to Traffic Police Chief Ahmad Shirani, over 15,500 people were also injured.

The death toll has a 3 percent decrease compared to Nowruz of 2023.

The accidents resulted in an average of 40 deaths per day during the holiday period.

Shirani identified six provinces with the highest number of accidents: Kerman, Fars, Sistan-Baluchistan, Isfahan, Razavi Khorasan, and Khuzestan.

In an attempt to improve road safety, police warned of potential new fines starting in two weeks.

The fines are expected to be significantly steeper, with a fivefold increase for violations causing accidents. Speeding fines are also set to rise.
