Revolutionary Guard Officer Killed in Airstrike on Syria Target

Iranwire – A member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was killed in an airstrike in the Syrian city of Banyas. The killed IRGC officer was named as Reza Zarei.

Iran’s Daneshjoo news agency attributed the attack to Israel. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported three explosions targeting a villa believed to be housing an Iranian-affiliated group.

“An Iranian commander and two escorts of non-Syrian nationalities were killed in Israeli airstrikes on a villa in the Batarayah area in the southern outskirts of Banyas city,” SOHR reported on March 1.

Israel has intensified airstrikes on IRGC-linked targets in Syria in recent months, with at least six high-ranking IRGC members killed.

On December 24 last year, the IRGC announced the death of Razi Mousavi, a top Quds Force commander, in an airstrike near Damascus.
