Iranian Government Sends Ballot Boxes to Flooded Province—Instead of Aid

Iranwire – Ballot boxes have been delivered to impoverished areas grappling with floods in Sistan and Baluchistan province even though Islamic Republic government agencies have yet to provide any aid or relief after five days of flooding.

After heavy rain and flooding in the restive province, 387 villages are still flooded, with more than 110,000 people displaced or in other dire circumstances.

The flooding has badly affected farms, mud houses, rural roads, and local infrastructure, leading to road closures and isolating villages from nearby cities and each other.

Due to the flooded roads, broken bridges, and washed-out pathways, only air assistance is feasible.

Ahmadreza Hashemzehi, the governor of Qasr-e Qand district, said two major dams had overflowed due to the recent rains and floods.

Baluch activists have criticized the Islamic Republic for ignoring flood victims and accused it of sending ballot boxes to flooded areas to advance its political agenda.
