Bad Weather in Iran Leaves Thousands Trapped on Motorways

Iranwire – Nearly 16,000 people were left stranded on motorways across 26 Iranian provinces, as severe weather conditions left parts of the country’s transport infrastructure paralyzed.

Heavy snowfall and rain forced the closure of roads in provinces such as Sistan and Baluchistan, Khorasan and Yazd, which usually experience little precipitation.

The head of Yazd province’s traffic police confirmed that all village roads are blocked due to heavy snowfall.

The Iranian Meteorological Organization issued a warning for continued cold, rain, winds and flooding in various parts of the country.

Additionally, Fars News Agency reported the cancellation of flights at Kerman airport due to “thick fog.”

Harsh weather conditions previously led to the cancellation of flights across the country.

On February 29, schools in several provinces were again closed for online classes.

Meanwhile, the national gas company warned of “record-breaking” levels of consumption due to the cold weather and urged citizens to conserve energy.
