Report: Tehran Sent Hundreds of Ballistic Missiles to Russia

Iranwire – The Islamic Republic of Iran has provided Russia with around 400 surface-to-surface ballistic missiles since the beginning of the year, Reuters reported on February 21, amid a burgeoning military partnership between Moscow and Tehran.

Many of the supplied missiles were from the Fateh-110 family of short-range ballistic weapons, such as the Zolfaghar, three Iranian sources told the news agency.

According to experts, this road-mobile missile is capable of striking targets at a distance of up to 700 kilometers.

Iranian and Russian officials did not immediately comment on the report.

The Iranian shipments began in early January after Iranian and Russian military and security officials finalized an agreement in late 2023, one Iranian source said.

A senior Iranian official said some of the missiles were sent to Russia by ship via the Caspian Sea, while others were transported by plane.

Another Iranian military official said there would be more shipments in the coming weeks.

A US official said that Washington had seen evidence of talks actively advancing but no indication yet of deliveries having taken place.

In November last year, the White House voiced concern that Tehran may provide Russia with ballistic missiles for use in its war in Ukraine, after having provided Moscow with drones, guided aerial bombs and artillery ammunition.
