Report: IRGC Suspected in Couple’s Murder Plot Against Swedish Jews

Iranwire – Sweden has reportedly deported an Iranian couple, believed to be acting on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), after being suspected in a plot to kill Jews in the Scandinavian country.

Posing as Afghans, Mahdi Ramezani and Fereshteh Sanaeifarid applied for and were granted asylum in Sweden in 2017

Swedish Radio reported on February 6 that the Iranian man and woman, identified as  Ramezani and Fereshteh Sanaeifarid, arrived in Sweden in 2015 pretending to be Afghan refugees with fake identities.

The suspected undercover agents succeeded in deceiving the Swedish Migration Agency and were granted asylum in 2017, the report said.

They were arrested in the Stockholm area in April 2021 on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a terrorist crime through murder.

The two were never charged due to a lack of evidence, but they were deported in 2022.

“We have strong belief that they were here on a mission on behalf of Iran,” deputy chief prosecutor Hans Ihrman told the Swedish broadcaster. “They were seen here in Sweden as a very severe security threat. And that’s the reason why they were expelled, even if we couldn’t prosecute them.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Israel are arch-enemies, and Iranian officials have vowed the destruction of the Jewish state.

Tehran has been accused of being behind a number of terror plots against Israeli and Jewish targets in foreign countries, including BrazilAzerbaijanCyprus and Greece last year.

The Iranian couple reportedly identified three different targets in Sweden, gathering addresses and photographs.

One of the targets was believed to be Aron Verständig, chair of the Official Council of Swedish Jewish communities, who told Swedish Radio he had received a call from the Swedish Security Service in 2021.

“They basically told me that you have been named as one of the targets of a possible terror crime that involves murder,” Verständig said.

One of the other potential targets was a dual US citizen, according to the report.

According to Swedish Radio, the Iranian couple denies the allegations.

Iranian officials did not immediately comment on the report.
