The Islamic Republic of Iran staged a military show in Tehran on September 24 in support of Palestinians, as part of an annual week devoted to the glorification of the paramilitary Basij force

The event, held on the occasion of Basij Week, included a march in which 50,000 Basij members reportedly participated and the showcasing of the Iranian-made Kheibar ballistic missile.

The Basij (“mobilization” in English) Resistance Force is a volunteer organization operating under the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It has played a key role in the Islamic Republic’s brutal crackdown on protests.

Images from the event in Tehran depicted Basij members clad in shrouds and carrying portraits of Palestinians killed in the war between Israel and Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Other participants in the rally carried Iranian, Palestinian and Lebanese flags, as well as banners of Hamas and Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, and shouted slogans against Israel and its main backer, the United States.

Both Hamas and Hezbollah are Iran-backed Islamist movements.

State media reported that similar rallies were held in other cities and towns across Iran.

The demonstrations took place after the warring parties in the Gaza war agreed to a four-day pause in the fighting, during which 50 hostages taken by Hamas in southern Israel on October 7 and 150 Palestinian detainees are to be released. The deal was mediated by Qatar.
