Israel-Hamas War: Biden Warns Iranian Leaders to “Be Careful”

Iranwire – President Joe Biden warned the Islamic Republic of Iran to “be careful” as the US Navy dispatched a carrier strike group to waters near Israel.

A force of six warships headed by the US Navy’s largest and most advanced nuclear aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, arrived in the eastern Mediterranean Sea this week as part of the American response to the weekend surprise attack by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas on Israel.

“We moved the US carrier fleet to the eastern Mediterranean and we are sending more fighter jets to that region, and made it clear to the Iranians: Be careful,” Biden told a group of Jewish community leaders in Washington on October 12.

A day earlier, he pledged unflinching support for Israel, calling the October 7 assault by Hamas militants an “act of sheer evil.”

Tehran has long backed Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip and rejects Israel’s right to exist.

The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post have reported that the Islamic Republic and Revolutionary Guards were deeply involved in planning and preparing the weekend surprise assault on Israel.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei denied that, but he hailed what he called Israel’s “irreparable” military and intelligence defeat.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said there was “a degree of complicity” from Tehran due to its years of support for the Palestinian group. But he also said that Washington hasn’t “seen hard, tangible, evidence that Iran was directly involved in participating in or resourcing, planning these sets of complex attacks.”

Following Hamas’s assault, Israel launched airstrikes on Gaza that have flattened entire blocks, and said it was preparing for a possible ground invasion.

The Israeli military says more than 1,200 people, including 189 soldiers, have been killed in Israel.

Roughly 1,500 Hamas militants were killed inside Israel, and hundreds of the dead inside Gaza are Hamas members, according to Israel.

Militants in Gaza are holding an estimated 150 people taken hostage from Israel.
