According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, Osman Maameh, a 55-year-old protester from Bukan was arrested by security forces on Salmandan Street in Bukan on 18 November 2022. He has been incommunicado for more than nine months.

An informed source told Iran Human Rights: “Osman Maameh and his wife were shot with pellet bullets when Osman was arrested. His wife still has 55 pellet bullets in her head which she cannot remove as it would cause paralysis. She lives with the pain.”

“His family haven’t heard from him for more nine months now and during this time, his family have followed up at all the security and judicial offices, as well as IRGC institutions in Bukan and Urmia, but there’s been no reponse as to whether he’s alive or dead. The family have reached the conclusion that he must have been killed under torture. They’ve been harassing the family throughout this time and each time, his son is threatened with reprisal if he talks to the media or activists about his father. They’ve been silenced through fear,” the source added.

Osman Maameh was on his way home when he was injured and arrested. He was working as a labourer in Iraqi Kurdistan prior to his arrest.
