Iranian authorities have sentenced Kurdish civil activist Ayoub Javanpour to a total of 15 years in prison, according to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network

The Revolutionary Court in the western city of Saqqez on July 22 handed down a ten-year prison sentence for “leading a crowd of more than two people to disrupt security,” two years for “insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” two years for “insulting the system’s leader” and one year for “propaganda against the system by pulling down the flag.”

If the sentences are upheld by the appeals court, Javanpour will have to serve 10 years in prison.

The activist was violently arrested by security forces in Saqqez on June 10 and is currently being held in the city’s central prison, the report said.

Javanpour was previously targeted by the judiciary in 2018 for his activism.
