Raisi and Latin American Allies Condemn US Sanctions

Iranwire – Iran’s hardline president Ebrahim Raisi has stopped in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, on the second day of his visit to Latin America, where he met with President Daniel Ortega on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on opposition to US sanctions affecting both their countries.

Raisi’s visit to Nicaragua follows his initial stop in Venezuela and is part of a regional tour, his first to Latin America, with Cuba scheduled as his next destination.

In a joint appearance in Managua, Raisi and Ortega expressed concerns and opposition to the impact of American sanctions on their respective countries.

“The United States wanted to paralyze our people with threats and sanctions, but it hasn’t been able to do it,” Raisi said.

Several key figures in Ortega’s government have been subjected to sanctions due to allegations of suppressing dissent and violating human rights.

Prior to his meeting with President Ortega, President Raisi visited Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who also presides over a country grappling with economic sanctions imposed by the United States.
