Engineer Dies at “Research Facility” in Former Nuclear Test Zone

Iranwire – An engineer was killed at a research facility belonging to Iran’s Defense Ministry in Parchin on Wednesday evening.

The death of engineer Ehsan Ghadbeighi was confirmed by the Ministry itself. The short statement published on the incident did not give further detail but described it as an “accident”, and the cause “under investigation”.

One of Ghadbeighi’s colleagues was injured in the same incident.

The Parchin area southeast of Tehran is one of the main centers hubs for the development of Iran’s missile program. A complex in Parchin, was previously used for testing explosives that could be used to detonate a nuclear warhead. At the time, the government denied the International Atomic Energy Agency access, insisting it was a military site only.

A number of similar incidents to this have been reported in the past, never in depth. The incident also comes after a spate of attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, including at Karaj and Natanz, generally atttributed by the government to Israeli “sabotage”.
