IRGC Colonel Shot Dead in Tehran

Iranwire – A colonel in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was shot dead in Tehran by unidentified gunmen on a motorbike, state media reported on Sunday.

Col. Hassan Sayyad Khodaei was shot five times in his car near the Iranian parliament on Sunday

In a short statement on the killing of Col. Hassan Sayyad Khodaei, the IRGC blamed “the anti-Revolution and agents affiliated with global arrogance”. Khodaei was shot five times while sat inside his unarmored Pride car just off a Tehran’s Mojahedin Eslam St, home to the Iranian parliament.

No party has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. State media gave scant detail about Khodaei’s background but described him as a “defender of the shrine”, suggesting membership of the IRGC’s Quds Force.

Quds Force bases have been repeatedly attacked by Israel in Syria in recent months. In March an Israeli strike near Damascus killed two colonels in the IRGC. In response the IRGC fired a barrage of missiles at a cluster of buildings in northern Iraq that it claimed was an Israeli spy center.

Tehran’s public prosecutor arrived on the crime scene within hours of the incident on Sunday and was quoted as having demanded police “urgently” arrest the perpetrators. Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting said “security forces” were on the trail of the suspected killers.
