Iranwire – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed the killing of two IRGC colonels in Syria by an Israeli missile strike.
Ehsan Karbalaipour and Morteza Saeednejad were killed on Tuesday in a bombardment on the outskirts of Damascus attributed to Israel by the Syrian official news agency SANA.
In a statement posted on its website, the Iranian Foreign Ministry identified the pair, described as “two Iranian defenders of the shrine”. Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh was quoted as saying “Iran will not let this brash act and other moves by the child-killing Zionist regime’s terror machine go unpunished.”
Thousands of Iranian forces and recruits of Iran-backed militias have died fighting on behalf of Bashar Al-Assad in Syria since 2014. The Islamic Republic insists its troops are there in an “advisory” capacity only.
