Iran-HRM – Political prisoner Soheil Arabi has been transferred to solitary confinement in the Revolutionary Guards’ Ward 2-A at Evin Prison.
Ward 2-A of Evin Prison which has been recognized as one of the most infamous centers of repression among political activists, is under the control of the notorious IRGC intelligence division.
Officials of the Prisons Organization have no access to prisoners in the IRGC Ward.
Political prisoners and prisoners of conscience inside this ward are routinely subjected to beatings and inhumane torture for forced confessions.
Iranian security forces transferred Soheil Arabi to an unknown location on September 18, 2020, immediately after he exposed the “deplorable condition” of the Greater Tehran Penitentiary (GTP) in an audio file leaked out of the notorious jail.
Arabi’s fellow inmates were told that he was taken to the prison’s medical center.
During his detention at GTP, Soheil Arabi was repeatedly attacked, harassed, and tortured. In one of these attacks, the agents broke his nose, which was never treated, and as a result, he is still suffering while breathing.
Arabi’s mother, Farangis Mazloum, was told on September 20 that her son had been taken to Rajai Shahr prison and placed in solitary confinement.
He was not allowed to have any visits during that period and could not contact his family. He was taken to the ward 2-A of Evin Prison on October 21.
This is the third time this year that Arabi has been transferred to Ward 2-A and interrogated.
The regime aims to file a case against him under the pretext of “propaganda against the state” and to put him on trial again to prevent his release because his prison term is about to end.
Iran Human Rights Monitor urges the United Nations Secretary-General, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and relevant UN rapporteurs as well as international human rights organizations to take immediate action to save the lives of political prisoners in Iran and to establish an international commission of inquiry to visit Iranian prisons and meet with prisoners, particularly the political prisoners.
