Radiofarda – Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr Football Club has filed a complaint with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) over what it called “obvious violations of the International Football Federation’s (FIFA) regulations by Iran’s Persepolis.”
According to the Sport 360 news website, Al-Nassr Club is claiming that Iran’s Persepolis football club, known as the Red Jerseys, committed blatant violations of FIFA rules by using “several illegal players” in its squad during the AFC’s championship semifinal, last Saturday.
The Al-Nassr Club has argued that since Persepolis’ former head coach, Branko Ivankovic, had an unsettled financial dispute with the Iranian club, it was not allowed to sign new players. Instead, Persepolis allegedly signed new players and played them in the AFC Championship.
Persepolis has categorically denied any wrongdoing or violations of international rules.
In the AFC’s championship semifinal on Saturday in an empty stadium in Doha, Qatar, Persepolis tied 1-1 with Al-Nassr after 120 minutes of breathtaking game.
Ultimately, Persepolis won 3-5 in penalty shootouts.
The Iranian side, crowned as the West Asian champions, will face the East Asian champions in the final match on December 19.
