Fire At Petrochemical Facility In Iran Kills One, Injures Another

Radiofarda – One person has died and another injured in a fire at an oil products processing facility near the western city of Kermanshah, the local director of the crisis management department announced on Monday, July 1.

The fire broke out early morning on Monday, July 1 in a factory processing oil material near Kermanshah, the capital city of Kermanshah province, Jalil Balaei said, adding, “The firefighters contained the blaze at 8 a.m.”

An investigation is underway to decide what caused the fire, Balaei noted.

The petrochemical facility that processes oil materials is located at Faraman Industrial Complex in the province of Kermanshah.

Select teams from the Red Crescent Society and rapid reaction forces were dispatched to the site from Kermanshah and the nearby towns, local news outlets reported.

Several plants and factories affiliated with the oil industry, as well as gas pipelines have caught fire in recent years, in Iran.

Three years ago, firefighters took several hours to extinguish a fire at a petrochemical plant, Bou Ali Sina industrial complex, in the southwestern oil-rich province of Khuzestan, Iranian news agencies reported on July 7, 2016.

As recently as April 8, 2019, the West Ethylene Gas Pipeline also caught fire after being ruptured in Kermanshah Province.

According to the governor, the explosion happened in the eastern region of Mahidasht Valley in Sarfirouzabad region, 10 kilometers from Kermanshah.
