Radiofarda – All parliamentary motions for impeaching President Hassan Rouhani’s ministers have been shelved, a member of Majles (Islamic parliament) presidium has announced.
According to Ali Asghar Yousefnejad, all the signatories to the motions have revoked their signatures for the impeachment of a few ministers.
Earlier, it was said that the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had asked the MPs to end impeaching Rouhani’s cabinet members.
However, Yousefnejad insisted that he knew nothing about such a directive.
There were reports in recent weeks concerning the possible impeachment of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture Jihad, and Interior ministers.
Most impeachment moves have been pressure tactics by hardliners against Rouhani’s government.
The ministers of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare, Ali Rabeie, and Economy, Massoud Karbasian, were impeached in recent months.
Furthermore, the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Abbas Akhoundi, and Industries and Mines, Mohammad Shariatmadari resigned from their positions.
Nevertheless, Shariatmadari, who was targeted for impeachment, won the parliament’s vote of confidence as the new Minister of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare.
The Minister of Health, Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi also resigned from his post last week.
