Iranwire – Saeed Mousanejad, a master’s student entering his first year at Tehran University’s Faculty of Social Sciences, tragically took his own life.
His body was discovered in his dorm room on the university campus on Thursday evening.
The Faculty of Social Sciences’ public relations office confirmed Mousanejad’s death and expressed condolences to his family and fellow students.
Mousanejad’s death is part of a disturbing trend of suicides among Iranian students.
In November 2023, the head of the Iranian Psychiatrists’ Scientific Association reported that 16 medical residents had committed suicide within the past year.
In recent weeks, news outlets have reported the suicides of at least two doctors in Tehran and Jask, sparking public outcry and discussion on social media.
