Iranian Women Activists Jailed for 15 Years

Iranwire – The Tehran Revolutionary Court has handed down 15-year prison sentences to two women political activists incarcerated in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison.

Marzieh Farsi and Forough Taghipour had been charged with “armed rebellion” and alleged affiliation with anti-government groups.

The two defendants refused to attend their trial, saying they did not recognize the legitimacy of the court.

Farsi and Taghipour were arrested in Tehran on August 21, 2023.

Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate imprisoned in Evin reported that Farsi and Taghipour spent 45 days in solitary confinement, during which they were pressed to confess to alleged charges.

Both Farsi and Taghipour have a history of previous detentions and imprisonments stemming from their activism.
