Iranwire – Iranian official media say the navy has added the 1,400-ton Deilaman destroyer capable of launching cruise missiles to its Caspian Sea fleet.
The vessel, named after a town in northern Iran, is 95 meters long and 11 meters wide and is able to launch torpedoes while traveling at 30 knots (56 kilometers per hour), IRNA news agency reported on November 27.
Deilaman can detect more than 100 targets simultaneously, including ships, drones, helicopters, submarines and aircraft, according to the report.
During a ceremony marking the inauguration of Deilaman in the port city of Bandar Anzali, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, chief of the Armed Forces General Staff, said that Iranian naval power in the Caspian Sea will serve “peace, security of commercial fleets, confronting terrorists and probable incidents in the future.”

The Caspian Sea, the largest inland body of water in the world, is shared by Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran.
While Russia is the biggest naval power in the Caspian, the Islamic Republic has been increasing its naval military presence since the 1990s. The Iranian navy has three bases on the shores of the sea.
