PayvandNews – Iranian film ‘Hush, Girls Don’t Scream’, by Pouran Derakhshandeh, won the Best Feature Film and Best Actor awards at the 12th Action on Film Festival held in Monrovia, California.

Derakhshandeh did not attend the award ceremony as she was preoccupied with another project and the prizes were received by one of the actors in the film, Nima Safaei, reported IRNA.
The festival was held from September 2 to 10 in Monrovia, California.

Pouran Derakhshandeh (born 27 March 1951 in Kermanshah, Iran) is an Iranian film director, producer, screen writer, and researcher.

Derakh’shandeh graduated in film directing in 1975 from Advanced School of Television and Cinema in Tehran. She started her professional career by making documentary films for the Kermanshah Television and subsequently for the Tehran Television. Her motion pictures include Relationship (1986), A Little Bird of Happiness (1987), Passing Through the Dust (1988), Lost Time (1989), A Love Without Frontier (1998), Candle in the Wind (2003), Wet Dream (2005), Eternal Children (2006), and Hush! The festival was founded in 2004 by Del Weston. After being disappointed by a bad experience, Weston sought to create a festival where filmmakers could showcase their films. It was first held in Long Beach, California as a part of the Long Beach International Martial Arts Championships. In 2008, it moved to Pasadena, California. In 2012, it moved to Monrovia, California.
The festival accepts all major genres and is not limited to action films.
