Iranwire – Houshang Pourbabai, legal counsel for Iranian film actress Elnaz Shakerdoost, told the Emtedad news portal that the Tehran Province Appeals Court has upheld the initial sentence of one year in prison, alongside a two-year ban on political, virtual, and artistic activities, against his client.
Shakerdoost was summoned to the Revolutionary Court following an Instagram story related to the January protests, where she was subsequently convicted on charges of “propaganda against the system.”
Her defense attorney stated that the content of the post, which triggered the judicial ruling, merely expressed grief and sympathy for the victims of the January violence and contained no calls for collective action or references to state institutions.
Pourbabai confirmed that despite challenging the preliminary verdict, Branch 36 of the Tehran Province Appeals Court upheld both the prison term and the civil bans imposed on Shakerdoost.
He added that the legal team will continue pursuing extraordinary remedies and judicial review through the Supreme Court.
