Arab-Israeli Citizen Arrested on Suspicion of Spying for Iranian Intelligence

Iranwire – Israeli police and the Shin Bet (Shabak) domestic security agency announced the arrest of a 25-year-old Arab-Israeli citizen on suspicion of collaborating with intelligence operatives affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Times of Israel reported that the individual has been identified as Mohammad Fahmi Mohammad Halaf, a resident of Baqa al-Gharbiyye in northern Israel. Israeli officials stated that he was detained and subjected to interrogation in recent weeks.

According to a joint statement issued by the police and Shin Bet, Halaf established online contact with an operative linked to the Islamic Republic and executed a series of tasks in exchange for payments amounting to “thousands of shekels.” Authorities confirmed that the investigation yielded concrete evidence against the suspect.

The Haifa District Prosecutor’s Office is scheduled to submit a formal indictment against the citizen in the Haifa District Court. The charges stem from actions alleged to have threatened national security and involved illegal contact with a foreign agent.

Israeli police and Shin Bet added that over the past two years, dozens of Israeli citizens have been arrested on suspicion of undertaking missions for Iranian intelligence handlers in exchange for financial remuneration. Security agencies noted that in most cases, initial contact with Iranian operatives originated via social media platforms, particularly Telegram.

Israeli authorities urged citizens to exercise heightened caution during online interactions with unknown individuals and to report any suspicious solicitations or proposals directly to security agencies.
