Iranwire – Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, the head of the Islamic Republic’s Judiciary, during a meeting with judges and judicial officials on Monday, April 27, demanded an investigation into the issue of so-called “White SIM” and “Pro Internet” access.
Referencing published reports, Mohseni-Ejei stated that “incidents have occurred” in this regard and that it is necessary for the “Prosecutor General’s Office” and the “General Inspection Organization of the country” to intervene seriously. He stated, “It is unacceptable for unqualified individuals or opportunistic elements to use this platform for financial exploitation; the Judiciary will address this matter in the interest of public rights.” Mohseni-Ejei further characterized the country as being “in a state of war” and claimed that the handling of cases related to security issues is of paramount importance.
He also tasked oversight bodies with investigating what “White SIMs” or “Pro Internet” actually are and how they are being distributed. According to Mohseni-Ejei, while it was previously announced that these services would only be granted to certain individuals under specific conditions, there are reports indicating that such access has been sold to individuals outside this framework in exchange for sums reaching several tens of millions of tomans.
