Iranwire – Mehraveh Khandan, Nasrin Sotoudeh’s daughter, said in an Instagram post that her mother made a brief phone call on Saturday, April 18. During the call, Sotoudeh told her family that she is being held in a Ministry of Intelligence detention center.
Mehraveh Khandan wrote: “Apparently, she was either not allowed to say her exact location or she did not know it herself.” She said the family still does not know exactly where the prominent human rights activist is being held, adding, “The Ministry of Intelligence is responsible for any unfortunate incident.”
Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer and human rights activist, was arrested on April 1. Since then, she has made only two brief phone calls. There is still no information about why she was arrested, what charges she may be facing, or where exactly she is being detained.
A day before her arrest, Sotoudeh spoke to IranWire about the dire conditions prisoners were facing during the war and expressed deep concern for her husband, Reza Khandan, who remains imprisoned in Evin Prison.
Her family has repeatedly gone to judicial authorities to ask about her condition and whereabouts, but they were previously told that Nasrin Sotoudeh’s name was not registered in the system and that her place of detention was unknown.
