Iranwire – As the deadline set by Donald Trump to begin the naval blockade of Iran and the Strait of Hormuz at 17:30 (5:30 PM) today, Monday, April 13, approaches, domestic Iranian media report a surge in Tehran’s regional diplomatic activity.
According to these reports, Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, held separate telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to discuss the latest regional developments and the status of Iran-U.S. negotiations in Islamabad.
Iranian media claim that Araghchi spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan regarding the current situation and the outlook for what has been described as “future negotiations with the United States.”
Additionally, domestic outlets reported that the Iranian Foreign Minister consulted with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, regarding regional shifts and the progress of the Iran-U.S. dialogue in Pakistan.
These diplomatic efforts take place in a context in which the Islamic Republic and the IRGC have repeatedly targeted military, civilian, industrial, and infrastructure sites in Israel and the U.S. with missile and drone strikes since the onset of the conflict.
