“New Phase” for Strait of Hormuz: Mojtaba Khamenei’s First Message Points at Hardline Shift

Iranwire – Domestic Iranian media have released a message attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei, the new Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The written statement, which was also shared on a Telegram channel linked to Mojtaba Khamenei, was issued to mark 40 days since the death of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s former Leader.

In the message, he stressed the importance of people taking to the streets, noting that “presence in the squares” would have an impact on the ongoing negotiations.

One section of the nine-page document reads: “We will certainly demand reparations for every single injury inflicted, the blood money for the martyrs, and compensation for the disabled of this war, and we will undoubtedly usher the management of the Strait of Hormuz into a new phase.”

Elsewhere in the message, he states, “We have not been, and are not, seekers of war; however, we will by no means relinquish our rights, and in this regard, we view the entire Axis of Resistance as a unified front.”

This comes despite the fact that hostility toward the United States and Israel has remained a core pillar of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy since the 1979 Revolution.

The new Leader of the Islamic Republic has not made a public appearance since the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, at the start of the war.
