Iranwire – According to information received by IranWire, prisoners held in Greater Tehran Prison, known as Fashafuyeh, are facing deeply concerning conditions amid the ongoing conflict.
IranWire has learned that after an attack took place near the prison, some inmates attempted to leave the facility. However, NOPO forces (Special Units of the Law Enforcement Force) blocked their exit and dispersed them using pellet guns, live ammunition, and tear gas.
Conditions inside the prison have become significantly harsher in the nearly two weeks since the incident. Reports suggest that prisoners are facing severe shortages of food and water, with many struggling even to find enough water for drinking or bathing.
It has also been reported that gas services in the prison have been cut off, further limiting access to basic necessities needed for daily life.
Prisoners in Greater Tehran Prison are now calling for public attention to their situation. Their access to public phones has become limited, as phone card credits are running out and some machines have already been disconnected. This has raised concerns about a possible complete communication blackout between inmates and their families.
The prison shop is no longer operating, leaving prisoners without access to essential supplies. At the same time, security forces and prison officials have reportedly welded the prison doors shut to prevent any potential escape attempts. This measure means that if the prison or nearby areas are attacked, inmates would have no way to escape or protect themselves.
Under international legal standards, financial and political prisoners should be released on bail during such crises, while others who cannot be released should be transferred to a safer location.
The prisoners state: “It is unlikely that America will kill us, but the Islamic Republic certainly will!”
