Iranian Intelligence Agents Arrest Baha’i Man in Gorgan

iranwire – Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence agents have arrested a Baha’i resident of northern Gorgan and transferred him to an unknown location, according to a human rights organization.

Kambiz Teimouri Moqaddam was detained at his home on Tuesday.

Security agents searched Teimouri Moqaddam’s residence during the arrest and confiscated several digital devices and religious books.

Teimouri Moqaddam suffers from high blood pressure and requires ongoing medical care, raising concerns about his well-being in detention, the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights reported.

Authorities have not disclosed the reasons for his arrest or what charges, if any, he faces.

Baha’is in Iran face systematic persecution, including restrictions on education, employment, and religious practice.

They are often accused of espionage or acting against the government, though the Baha’i International Community says no evidence has ever been presented to support these claims.

Over the past two years, Iranian authorities have intensified their crackdown on Baha’is – imprisoning dozens on spurious charges, denying them access to higher education and employment, and confiscating or destroying their properties.

In its latest annual report, Human Rights Watch described the systematic suppression and denial of basic rights to Baha’is as a crime against humanity.
