Iranwire – An Iranian musician and guitarist has been held in solitary confinement for eight days after being arrested at his home by intelligence agents.
Meysam Beyg Mohammadi was detained at night at his home in Abbas Abad, a city in northern Mazandaran province, by agents from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Intelligence Organization. He was alone at the time of his arrest.
Beyg Mohammadi is currently being held in solitary confinement at Sari prison, according to reports.
No official has publicly commented on or confirmed the reason for his detention.
The artist has previous convictions in Iran’s judicial system. In 2009, a judge sentenced him to one year in prison for his activities.
He served the full sentence at Evin prison in Tehran.
Last year, Beyg Mohammadi was sentenced to three months in prison on charges of “insulting the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic through a social media post.”
The judiciary agreed to convert that sentence to electronic monitoring with an ankle bracelet.
Iranian authorities routinely detain artists, musicians, and other cultural figures, often without publicly stating charges.
