Iranian Blogger Ordered to Prison on Charges of ‘Pro-Israel Propaganda’

iranwire – An Iranian blogger has been ordered to report to prison to serve a three-and-a-half-year sentence for propaganda against the state, she said in social media posts.

Donya Hosseini said she was summoned on November 30 to the judicial enforcement branch to begin serving the sentence. She received a travel ban notice on December 1.

Hosseini was convicted of “propaganda against the system in the direction of strengthening the Zionist regime.”

Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, issued the verdict. Branch 36 upheld it on appeal without any changes, Hosseini said.

She said her case was referred directly to the Revolutionary Court without a police report, and her defenses were ignored.

Hosseini, 35, is originally from Khuzestan province and lives in Tehran. She was active on Instagram under the name Donya Azad.

She was previously held at Evin prison for about four months before being released in 2023.

Security forces arrested her on August 12, 2023, and confiscated electronic devices and handwritten notes.

Hosseini said she has faced three cases over the past three years. The first, in 2022, ended without prosecution. The second, in 2023, resulted in a five-year suspended sentence and a fine. A hijab-related case in 2023 also ended without prosecution.

She said the prison sentence will disrupt her plans to open a café after a year of preparation.

Hosseini was among those detained during the protests that erupted in Iran in 2022.
