iranwire – Iranian authorities arrested 21 people, including several prominent actors, during a raid on a birthday party, state media reported.
The party was held at the home of actor Ali Shadman.
Those arrested included actors Parsa Pirouzfar, Setareh Pesyani, Sahar Dolatshahi, Mehran Modiri and Ahmad Sa’atchi.
All detainees except Shadman and Pesyani have been released on bail. Pirouzfar became ill during the raid and was hospitalized, sources said.
Fars News Agency described the arrests as an intelligence “operation.”
Six people face charges of “damaging public chastity,” “promoting prostitution,” “drinking alcohol” and “possessing alcoholic beverages,” according to reports.
Separate cases were opened at the Ershad prosecutor’s office for other detainees, mostly cinema and theater actors.
Shadman dedicated a jury prize at the Negah Festival in September to imprisoned theater actor Hossein Mohammadi, who was arrested during the 2022 Woman, Life, Freedom protests.
Some social media users described the raid as retaliation for that gesture, saying Shadman has faced security pressure since.
Alcohol consumption and production are banned under Iranian law.
