iranwire – Iranian security forces raided the home of an activist after he posted a video burning a picture of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, forcing him into hiding, a former political prisoner said.
Fouad Chobin said security forces stormed Samad Poursheh’s home in Yasuj hours after he posted the November 5 video on Instagram.
Agents seized his phone but failed to arrest him, Chobin said Thursday on Instagram.
Poursheh’s Instagram account was taken down after the video’s release.
In the video, he burned Khamenei’s picture in response to the death of Omid Sarlak and said, “You were destroyed with Aban, and this Aban continues.” Aban refers to the month on the Persian calendar when major protests erupted in 2019 and 2022.
Sarlak’s body was found on Saturday in his car in Aligudarz, Lorestan Province, with a weapon nearby.
He had posted a video earlier that day showing himself setting fire to an image of Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Before his account disappeared, Poursheh posted, “Whatever happens to me is the work of the Islamic government.”
Poursheh, an activist from Dehdasht, previously faced prosecution for participating in protests.
In March, he said he would appear at the Yasuj Revolutionary Court with his lips sewn shut.
When a judge asked him why others’ deaths concerned him, he replied, “What do the people of Gaza and Lebanon have to do with you, that you destroyed the country for them?”
He was charged with “propaganda against the Islamic Republic.” Chobin is the uncle of Artin Rahmani, who was killed in the 2022 protests.
