IRGC Member Kills Woman Who Refused Marriage Demand in Western Iran

Iranwire – A member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shot and killed a 40-year-old woman after she refused his demand to divorce her husband and marry him, a human rights organization reported.

Leila Alirmaei was killed on Sunday in the Hejrat neighborhood of Marivan in Kurdistan province by her neighbor, identified as Keyvan Basami.

Basami went to Alirmaei’s home and pressured her to leave her husband and marry him, according to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.

When she refused, he opened fire with a Kalashnikov rifle in front of her house and shop near a school, killing her instantly.

Basami is already married to two women and has a documented history of domestic violence against both, according to Hengaw.

He previously attacked his first wife with a knife. His second wife has filed for divorce due to continued abuse, and her case is under judicial review.

Alirmaei was the mother of two children, a daughter and son, who were at school when she was killed. Her husband was not home at the time.

Basami was arrested after the killing. Alirmaei’s body was transferred to the Marivan Forensic Medicine Department and she was buried Monday at Darsiran Cemetery in Marivan.
