Iranwire – Iran executed seven prisoners on drug-related charges in a single day at a prison in northern Iran.
The executions were carried out on Saturday at Lakan Prison in Rasht, according to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.
Those executed were identified as Mahbubeh Jalali, 38; Kourosh Nasrollahzadeh, 48; Farhad Hatami; Amir Nazari; Meysam Bagheri, 34; Siamak Khadem; and Hamed Hanifeh.
All seven had been sentenced to death by Iranian courts on drug-related charges. Their arrests took place between four and seven years ago.
Jalali was arrested along with a man to whom she was temporarily married under Islamic law. The man claimed the narcotics found belonged to her, according to Hengaw.
Nasrollahzadeh, a father of two, was arrested with his wife and children. His wife was sentenced to four years in prison, while the children were later released.
Khadem and Hanifeh were arrested together in a joint case seven years ago.
Iran executed at least 1,000 people in the first nine months of 2025, according to Iran Human Rights.
The Norway-based group said it verified 1,000 executions between January 1 and September 23.
It recorded 64 executions in the past week alone, an average of more than nine per day.
The organization added that the actual number is likely higher due to Iran’s secrecy surrounding executions and restrictions on reporting.
According to the group’s data, half of the executions were for drug offenses, 43 per cent for murder, 3 per cent for security-related charges, 3 per cent for rape, and 1 per cent for espionage.
