Iranwire – Iran’s top security official met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday and delivered a written message from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, traveled to Moscow on Thursday for the meeting.
The two sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in economic, regional and international areas, Iranian media reported.
No details of Khamenei’s message to Putin were disclosed.
The visit comes one week after Putin said at a Russia-Central Asia summit in Tajikistan that he had received messages from Israel indicating Tel Aviv does not seek military confrontation with Iran and wants a diplomatic resolution to Tehran’s nuclear program.
Larijani previously served as Iran’s parliament speaker from 2008 to 2020 and was appointed to lead the Supreme National Security Council after the 12-day war in June.
The meeting follows months of tensions between Iran and Israel, which have engaged in a series of military exchanges.
