Iranian State TV Host Summoned After Exposing Election Interference

Iranwire – Former state TV presenter Zohreh Hashemi has been summoned to court after revealing that the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) interfered in the 2021 presidential election.

The judiciary-affiliated Mizan news agency reported on Sunday that the Tehran prosecutor had also summoned the editor of the Khabar Fori website, which interviewed Hashemi.

According to Mizan, a legal case has been opened against Hashemi, and she has been asked to provide evidence to support her claims.

In an interview, Hashemi said, “At IRIB, the only thing that didn’t matter was professionalism and you had to follow directives.”

Speaking about the 2021 election, Hashemi said, “Two months before the election, IRIB officials formally told me they wanted Ebrahim Raisi to win.”

She also recalled a meeting with Peyman Jebeli, the head of the state broadcaster, and other managers, during which attendees repeatedly referred to IRIB as “Jalili’s IRIB,” in reference to Saeed Jalili’s family influence within the organization.

Hashemi added that Jebeli defined Iranian citizens as “those who participated in Qasem Soleimani’s funeral ceremony.”
