Iranwire – Two Iranian cultural activists detained in Evin Prison are on hunger strike, their families said.
Ehsan and Ramin Rostami have been on hunger strike for 10 days in Ward 209 of Evin Prison, according to an Instagram page close to their family.
“Our children’s lives are in danger in Ward 209 of Evin,” the page said.
“It seems our loved ones have chosen the last way for a prisoner to cry out, and we were unaware that for 10 days they have emptied their bodies of bread so that perhaps the sound of their lives will be heard beyond the walls,” the post added.
The families said on Saturday that an investigator at Branch 5 of the Qods Prosecutor’s Office in Evin refused to meet with them.
“We went to the prosecutor’s office today. Mr. Jalayer, the investigator of Branch 5, again did not receive us. We just wanted to ask for what sin you deny us the right to see and hear our children,” the message said.
Ehsan and Ramin Rostami are cousins from Harsin in Kermanshah province who now live in Tehran.
Security forces raided the homes of five cultural activists in Tehran on August 20, arresting Hassan Touzendehjani, a poet and cultural activist; Ehsan Rostami, a publisher, translator, and bookseller; Marjan Ardeshirzadeh, a translator; Ramin Rostami; and Nima Mehdizadegan.
More than 40 days after their arrests, no information has been released regarding the detaining agency, the reasons for detention, possible charges, or the status of their case proceedings.
The families’ statement that Ehsan and Ramin Rostami are being held in Ward 209 of Evin suggests that the Intelligence Ministry was responsible for the arrests.
Ward 209 is under the control of the Intelligence Ministry.
