Iranwire – An Iranian political prisoner has denied espionage charges from Evin Prison, saying a confession broadcast on state television was coerced and edited.
Amirhossein Mousavi, who was arrested on December 19, 2024, released a letter on Tuesday rejecting accusations that he spied for Israel.
He said his appearance on state TV’s 8:30 p.m. news program was forced after spending 148 days in solitary confinement.
“Nearly all the sentences I said in that interview were the result of the interrogator’s imposition,” Mousavi wrote. “Even those statements were broadcast with extensive cuts and distortions.”
Mousavi has been held at Evin Prison since his arrest. His trial is scheduled for November 1.
The state television report claimed that Mousavi had collaborated with “royalist elements” during Iran’s 12-day war with Israel.
Mousavi said the claim was impossible because he had been arrested six months before the war.
“How does this make sense?” he wrote.
Mousavi said he was threatened with his wife’s re-arrest and beatings unless he agreed to give the interview.
The broadcast identified several people as Israeli intelligence operatives who allegedly communicated with Mousavi, a claim he denied.
A user called “Elaheh” was described in the report as an “agent of the Zionist regime.” Mousavi said he was simply one of hundreds of ordinary Twitter friends.
