Iranwire – An Iranian labor activist has been sentenced to 22 months and 17 days in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state and insulting the Supreme Leader.”
Younes Azadbar was convicted by Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court in Rasht, presided over by Judge Mohammad Ali Darvishgoftar, who has repeatedly issued harsh sentences against civil activists.
Darvishgoftar drew attention for sentencing imprisoned civil activist Sharifeh Mohammadi to death.
Azadbar was arrested on May 5 by the Revolutionary Guard’s Intelligence Organization and released on bail after one week.
Security forces searched his home without a warrant and confiscated personal items, including his mobile phone, according to reports.
The Coordinating Council of the Iranian Teachers’ Union announced the sentence and added that Azadbar faces several other open legal cases.
He has been imprisoned repeatedly since the 1980s and has spent more than 10 years in Iranian prisons, the council said.
