Iranwire – Dozens of political prisoners at Evin Prison have called for the prosecution of those responsible for the death of fellow inmate Somayeh Rashidi, according to a letter obtained by IranWire.
Rashidi, a political prisoner held at Qarchak Prison, died after authorities failed to transfer her to a hospital in time, the prisoners wrote in their letter.
The signatories accused prison officials and judiciary authorities of violating prisoners’ fundamental rights by neglecting medical care for inmates suffering from serious illnesses.
“Once again, it has been proven that prison officials and the judiciary completely disregard even the most basic rights of prisoners,” the letter said.
The prisoners outlined four demands: prosecution of those responsible for Rashidi’s death, the return of female inmates transferred from Evin Prison after Israel bombed it, the unconditional release of prisoners with serious medical conditions that cannot be treated in custody, and the establishment of a properly equipped medical clinic for inmates.
The letter was signed by 30 political prisoners, including Mohammad Ali Mahmoudi, Salar Taher Afshar, and Esmail Eslami.
