Iranwire – Iran executed at least 187 prisoners in September, a 140 per cent increase from the same month last year and the highest monthly total in two decades, a human rights organization reported.
The executions included three political prisoners and two prisoners of conscience, according to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, which compiled the data.
The organization confirmed the identities of 181 executed prisoners. Six cases remain under verification.
Among those executed were political prisoners Mehran Bahramian from Semirom, Babak Shahbazi from Karaj, and Bahman Choobi Asl.
Mohammad Kashfi from Bandar Khamir and Eskandar Bazmandegan from Khur in Fars Province were identified as prisoners of conscience.
At least six women were executed in prisons in Shiraz, Isfahan, Tabriz, Qazvin, Zanjan, and Sabzevar.
Five were convicted of premeditated murder: Gohar Taheri Aghdam, Zahra Fotouhi, Mehnaz Dehghani, Jeyran Zaheri, and one unidentified woman.
Hadigheh Abadi, an Afghan national, was executed on drug-related charges.
Amnesty International said last week that Iran executed more than 1,000 people in the first nine months of 2025.
