Iran Bans Video Recording at Football Matches

Iranwire – Iran’s Football Federation has banned fans and media from recording video at Premier League matches, according to an announcement on the federation’s website.

Journalists and photographers who record video using phones or cameras at stadiums will face penalties, and repeat offenders will be barred from attending league matches.

The federation and league organization will monitor all media output, the federation said in a report on a fifth-week Premier League review meeting.

Media outlets that publish video footage from stadium stands or the pitch will have their representatives banned from stadiums, according to the announcement.

The meeting included league organization and football federation managers, as well as Hojjatollah Bahmani, head of public relations for the league organization, Ali Alipour, a cleric, Hamid Jahed, head of security for the league organization, and Mohsen Mousavi, head of logistics for the football federation.

Iranian football stadiums have been sites of anti-government protests.

Fans have chanted slogans against authorities during matches, particularly following the 2022 protests.

Critics say the ban is intended to prevent footage of anti-government chants and stadium conditions from being broadcast.
