Iranwire – Iranian intelligence forces have arrested a former Kurdish political prisoner and environmental activist and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
Semko Maroufi was arrested in Bukan on June 30, according to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.
Several intelligence vehicles surrounded his home in a residential neighborhood before the arrest.
No information is available about the reasons for his arrest, his current location, or any charges against him.
Maroufi has faced repeated arrests and imprisonment in recent years. In March 2021, Bukan’s Intelligence Department arrested him and held him for 25 days before releasing him on bail.
In April 2021, Branch 104 of Bukan’s Criminal Court sentenced him to one year in prison and a two-year travel ban on charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”
He was sentenced without legal representation and was re-arrested in November 2021 to serve the sentence at Bukan Central Prison.
In 2019, Branch 101 of Bukan’s Criminal Court sentenced Maroufi to two years in prison on charges of “disturbing public order” for participating in protests against Turkey’s military operations in Syrian Kurdistan.
