iranhr.net – Pedram Madani, a man sentenced to death for espionage for Israel, has been transferred from Evin Prison to Ghezelhesar Prison and is scheduled to be executed within days.
Redrawing attention to the current wave of executions in Iran, Iran Human Rights urges the international community to pay special attention to the execution crisis in Iran.
IHRNGO Director, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said: “Death sentences in Iran, especially on charges such as espionage, are issued and carried out without any due process. These executions are extrajudicial killings that the international community should not remain indifferent to.”
At least 113 people have been executed in the first 25 days of 2025, an average of four per day.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, Pedram Madani (around 40 years old) was transferred from Evin Prison in Tehran to Ghezelhesar Prison in Karaj on 25 May 2025. At the same time, his family were summoned to Ghezelhesar Prison for the last visit.
Pedarm was arrested for allegedly spying for Israel around six years ago. He was sentenced to death for charges of efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth) by the Revolutionary Court which was overturned by the Supreme Court three times. Each time, his case was referred to a court of equal standing which resentenced him to death. The judiciary is apparently adamant on carrying out his execution as soon as possible.
In recent years, many, including members of dissident groups, have been convicted and executed for espionage charges. Due to the lack of transparency, little information is available about their cases.
