Khamenei Reassures Putin: U.S. Nuclear Talks Won’t Affect Iran-Russia Ties

Iranwire – Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, said Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has sent a written message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, assuring him that Iran-U.S. nuclear talks would not weaken relations with Russia.

According to Jalali, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi delivered the letter during an official visit to Moscow.

The message aimed to reduce mutual suspicions as both countries pursue diplomatic engagement with Western nations.

Jalali said Khamenei’s letter emphasized that Tehran’s relations with “friendly” countries would continue regardless of nuclear negotiations or Western dialogue.

He also noted that the relationship is “balanced,” addressing critics who question Tehran’s dependence on Moscow.

Jalali added that Putin was pleased with Khamenei’s message and reaffirmed his commitment to continued cooperation.

The United States and Iran concluded a second round of talks on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program in Rome on Saturday, agreeing to meet again next week in Oman.

The four-hour discussions, mediated by Oman, took place at the Omani ambassador’s residence, with delegations in separate rooms.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the meeting as “good” and said progress was made.

“This time we managed to reach a better understanding on a series of principles and goals,” he said, adding that only nuclear issues were discussed.
