Iranwire – Iranian protest rapper Emad Ghavidel has transferred management of his Instagram account to someone outside the country after being summoned by cyber police and forced to sign a pledge to cease anti-government activities on social media.

In an Instagram story posted on April 15, Ghavidel said he was summoned for supporting singer Mehdi Yarrahi, who was lashed 74 times last month.

Although he acknowledged that the forced pledge had affected his morale, Ghavidel said he would remain in Iran and continue his artistic work.

This incident marks the latest in a series of confrontations between Ghavidel and authorities.

In November 2022, he was detained for supporting public protests and released on bail after being physically assaulted while in custody.

The following month, a court in Rasht sentenced him to three months in prison and imposed a fine.

Ghavidel noted that such security pressures have led many artists to leave Iran, but he said he plans to stay in order to “be the voice of the people.”
