Iranwire – A member of Iran’s Parliament National Security Commission has said that a visit by Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Tehran could serve “Iran’s national interests.”
Referring to Witkoff’s earlier visit to Russia and his meeting with Vladimir Putin, Abolfazl Zohrevand said, “If Witkoff wants to see Iran firsthand, there’s no obstacle.”
He added, “He can witness the real power of the Islamic Republic, provided that negotiations show positive signs and safeguard our national interests.”
“If Witkoff visits, he’ll see that people aren’t starving and the country isn’t collapsing. This reality might shift his perspective and, eventually, moderate Trump’s calculations regarding Iran,” Zohrevand said.
He clarified that such visits are intended to correct perceptions rather than encourage American investment in Iran’s economy.
“We’re currently receiving positions and proposals from the other side,” he said. “Formal negotiations are not yet on the agenda.”
He also rejected any return to the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, saying, “The nuclear deal no longer exists. It was a mistake that brought us nothing but losses.”
