Iranwire – Mehrzad Mousavi, a writer and researcher from Shiraz, has been imprisoned since November 2023 with no access to medical furlough despite his deteriorating health.

Security forces violently arrested Mousavi at his home in Shiraz.
In February 2024, he was sentenced to eleven years in prison on charges of “membership in opposition groups,” “collusion against national security,” and “propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”
Five years of this sentence are enforceable.
The court also imposed a travel ban, passport cancellation, social media restrictions, and exile to Kerman province for two years after his release.
“He continues to read and write even in these unfair conditions. He’s been neglected by human rights organizations inside and outside the country,” a source told IranWire.
Mousavi, who is being held in Adelabad Prison, has written several scholarly works on Iranian history and culture.
